10,000 People Flocked to This Glass Bridge in China on Its Opening Weekend

One of China’s much-anticipated glass bridges in Tianlongchi park in Pingdingshan, Henan, finally opened over the weekend. The park marked the official opening by allowing free admission, and more than 10,000 people showed up to claim the deal.

According to the promotional flyer, as translated byMashable, admission for the bridge normally costs 50 yuan ($7.30 USD). Construction began on the bridge in October and finished in April. The past weekend marked its official grand opening.

The sight of 10,000 people on a long stretch of glass looks pretty terrifying, but the bridge can actually bear a significant amount of weight.

According to Chinese publication The People’s Daily, the bridge can bear up to 3,000 kilograms per square meter, or roughly 614 pounds per square foot. The bridge is suspended 96 meters (315 feet) above a 216 meter (708 feet) stretch between two mountains.

All those measurements add up to a pretty strong bridge, which makes a group of thousands of people look downright impressive. But it might be better to wait for a day when you’re not sharing it with 9,999 other people.
