[Feature Articles] YesAsia 2018 Bestsellers – Half-Year Report

The below rankings are based on sales of movie, music and TV releases on YesAsia.com from January 1 to June 30, 2018. Sales of all editions and versions of the same title are summed up to determine the total sales and ranking of each title.

K-pop sensation BTS, last year’s best-selling artist, conquers the top spot again with the Love Yourself ‘Tear’ album, which was released less than two months ago. SHINee’s Jong Hyun comes in at #2 on the bestsellers chart with his posthumous album Poet | Artist, and his group’s tenth anniversary release The Story of Light ranks sixth overall. EXO is again in the top ten, while subunit EXO-CBX and labelmate NCT break into the chart for the first time. Monsta X, GOT7 and Twice continue to rank in the top ten bestsellers. BLACKPINK emerges at #10 with their first mini-album.

Reviews for John Woo‘s Manhunt weren’t exactly glowing, but for old-school Hong Kong cinema fans, the director’s return to action is a must-see regardless as it edged out even Chasing the Dragon‘s Donnie YenAndy Lau team-up for first place. Chinese action remains the most popular genre with Zhang Jin vehicle The Brink, wuxia film Brotherhood of Blades: The Infernal Battlefield, SPL entry Paradox and Wu Jing‘s record-smashing Wolf Warriors II also making the top ten movie bestsellers. Two very different Korean films break into the top ten: acclaimed historical drama A Taxi Driver starring Song Kang Ho and notorious psychological crime drama Real starring Kim Soo Hyun.
